Funeral services for Betty Ann Evans, 69, of Laurel, will be at 2 p.m.

on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022 from Altair Missionary Baptist Church in

Shubuta, with Rev. Roy Roberts officiating. Visitation will be from 12-6

p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022 from the chapel of Turner Funeral Home.

Following the funeral service, interment will take place at the church

cemetery.

Born on July 9, 1953, she was a Child Care Provider.

She died on Thursday, July 28, 2022 in Shubuta.

Funeral services for Christopher Maurice Thames, 58, of Quitman, will be

at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022 from Shady Grove AME Church in

Quitman, with Rev. Alonzo Williams officiating. Visitation will be from

12-1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022 from Shady Grove AME Church.

DIMPLE DOBY

Nov. 19, 1932-July 30, 2022

A memorial service for Dimple Doby, 89, of Waynesboro, were conducted on

Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home, with

Rev. Dixie Holder-Cummings officiating.

Interment followed at Hebron Cemetery.

Born on Nov. 19, 1932 in Wayne County, she was a longtime resident of

Waynesboro. After graduation from Buckatunna High School, she moved to

Waynesboro. It was there that she met and married Clinton L. Doby, Sr.,

her husband of 36 years. Dimple and Clinton made their home and reared

three children in Waynesboro.

A lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, she was a devoted servant

to her church and community. She will be remembeeds as a loving wife,

mother, sister, grandmother and friend.

She died peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2022.

She is survived by her children and their respective spouses, Sheryl

Doby and Phil Davis of Laurel, Sheila Doby and Phil Cranford of Pace,

Fla. and Clinton L. and Phyllis Doby, Jr., of Madison; her grandchildren

and their respective spouses, Blair and Brad Davis of Franklin, Tenn.,

Dr. Carly and George Mead of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Danielle Davis of

Laurel, Eric Davis of Pensacola, Fla., and Dr. Sara Jane Doby and Jeff

McCrary of Madison; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Ronald

Parker of Bossier City, La., and Wanda and Hershel McLain of Hurley; and

numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Vertie Brewer; her

husband, Clinton; her sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Johnnie

Brewer; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Boyd and Arlouine Brewer,

Dempsey and Gilda Brewer, Abner Brewer, Lamar and Maureen Brewer and

Avison and Josie Brewer.

Pallbearers were Eric Davis, Larry Gandy, Rodney Doby, Cade Doby, Dr.

Jeff McCrary, Dr. George Mead and Dr. Arthur Wood.

In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist

Dec. 3, 1941-July 21, 2022

Funeral services for Dessie Lee McLendon, 80, of Lawrenceville, Ga., and

formerly of Waynesboro, were conducted on Friday, July 29.

Born on Dec. 3, 1941, she was a retired Guidance Counselor with the

Wayne County School District, serving at Wayne County High School. She

was a former Director of Vacation Bible School, Chair of the Church

Program Committee and served on various auxiliaries at St. Luke

Missionary Baptist Church.

She died on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Northwest Gwinnett Hospital in

Lawrenceville.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Atty. Louis and

Felicia MCLendon of Lilburn, Ga., and Michael McLendon of Nashville,

Tenn.; her daughter Dr. Mechelle Dzoole of Sugar Hill, Ga.; four

brothers and three sisters-in-law, Billie Charles and Louise Williamson

of Lockport, Ill., Dr. Alex and Sandrea Williamson of Greensboro, N.C.,

Dr. Lionel Williamson of Lexigton, Ken., and Dr. Handy and Barbara

Williamson of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Annie Richardon and Gladys

Williamson of Indianola; four grandchildren and a son-in-law, Edson

Dzoole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three

siblings.

scholarship fund in McLendon's name at Alcorn State University.Please

Funeral services for Percy Gray, Sr., 92, of Shubuta, were conducted on

Saturday, July 30, 2022 from Green Hill Baptist Church in Shubuta, with

Rev. John Kenny Gray officiating.

Interment followed at Green Hill Cemetery.

Born on July 16, 1930, he was the retired Owner of Gray's Logging and

was Chairman of the Deacon Board at Green Hill Baptist Church.

He died on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Reese Gray; four sons and a

daughter-in-law, Percy, Jr. and Debra, Joe L., Clinton, Marvin and

Kermitt, all of Mississippi; two daughters and a son-in-law, Drucilla

and Rodney Armstrong of Orlando, Fla., and Gloria of Mississippi; six

siblings, Lylie, Ollie, McArthur, Betty Eddie and Elanor and Pauline and

James; 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 12

great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Deloise Gray, a

grandson, Corey Gray, three brothers, Clifton, James Lomack and Levester

Gray, and two sisters, Maggie Nelson Powe and Loretta Powe.

Funeral services for Hubert Ray "Buddy" Smith, 89, of Jackson and

formerly of Waynesboro, were conducted on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from

New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson, with Pastor Jerry Young officiating.

Interment followed at Garden Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson.

Born on April 14, 1933, he a retired School PRincipal in the Madison

County School District. He was a member of the Madison County School

Administration Association, Jackson State Alumni Association and a

member of various church auxiliaries at New Hope Baptist Church.

He died on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Roderick and Carol

Smith and Dr. Hubert Leopold and Sandra Smith; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemon Smith and Daisy Turner

Smith; his wife, Brinnie M. Smith; and a daughter, Belinda Joyce Smith.

Funeral services for Reginald McCann, 64, of Chickasaw, Ala., and

formerly of Waynesboro, were conducted on Friday, July 22, 2022 from the

Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.

His remains were cremated after the service.

Born on Nov. 19, 1957, he was a Laborer.

He died on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Spring Hill Medical Center in

Mobile, Ala.

He is survived by his brother, Rev. Darryl McCann of Waynesboro.
