Schools closed Tuesday ahead of storm system

Both public and private schools in Wayne County will be closed on Tuesday as storms are predicted to roll through the area starting Tuesday morning.

All schools in the Wayne County School District, along with Wayne Academy, made the decision late Monday afternoon to close school for safety reasons. Forecasts are for severe thunderstorms to start entering the area Tuesday morning and continuing for most of the day.

Residents are being urged to move objects that may become projectiles to inside structures and to stay alert and aware of warnings, watches and other alerts being issued.

This marks the third week in a row that the area has been under the threat of severe weather and potential tornadoes. The system two weeks ago did minimal damage, but last week's storms did significant damage in some areas, including at Wayne Academy.
