(Editor's Note: We will have video and photos from this game posted to
our website on Friday morning. Due to travel and the two football games
played Thursday night, we had to delay posting things until our
photographer got back to the office, which was extremely late. Thanks
for your understanding.)
CLINTON, La. — Wayne Academy's Lady Jaguars will have to win two in a
row in order to defend its state championship this season.
Silliman Institute took a 5-1 win over the Lady Jags in Game 1 of the
best-of-three Class 3A Division II State Championship series.
The two teams will face off on Monday in a 6 p.m. game at W.A. The game
will be broadcast live on this website.
The Lady Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the first, but W.A. was
able to tie things up in the top of the third. Anniston Crane led off
the inning with a single then Emma Bunch was hit by a pitch with one
out, moving Crane to second.
Blair Burgess then hit a two-out single to score Crane and tie the
score.
Unfortunately for the Lady Jaguars, it would be the final run of the
time for the visiting team.
Silliman answered quickly, pushing across three runs in the bottom of
the third. The Lady Wildcats then added a run in the bottom of the
fourth to set the final margin.
For the night, W,A. out-hit Silliman by a 9-7 margin. Burgess went
2-for-4 while Jaycee Ford was 2-for-3, Bunch went 1-for-2, Kambree
Rigney was 1-for-4, Amanda Nix was 1-for-3, Crane went 1-for-3 and Kali
Williams was 1-for-3.
In the pitching circle, T.G. Snowe tossed a complete game, giving up
five runs — only two earned — off seven hits and a walk while
striking out seven.
Should Wayne Academy win Monday's game, it is expected that the deciding
Game 3 will be played on Tuesday at Silliman.
