Schools to be closed Tuesday due to weather threat

All schools in Wayne County will be closed on Tuesday as the threat of severe weather makes it way toward the area.

All Wayne County School District facilities along with Wayne Academy announced Monday afternoon that schools will be closed. The severe weather is expected to begin coming into the area sometime Tuesday morning, with Wayne County being under a threat of severe weather into Tuesday night.

Forecasts are predicting the threat of winds up to 70 miles per hour, hail, flooding and even the possibility of tornadoes. Residents are being urged to prepare ahead of the storm for any possibility.

Motorists are urged to remain off roadways except for essential travel, and to avoid flooded roadways.

Residents should bring indoors any items such as lawn chairs, ornamental items in the yard and other objects that could become projectiles in a storm.

Everyone is also urged to be alert and stay up to date on changing weather conditions --- whether by online means or through a weather radio.
