Tuesday games cancelled; residents urged to prepare for severe weather

All games scheduled for Tuesday involving teams in the Wayne County School District have been cancelled as severe weather threatens the area tomorrow.

The WCHS baseball game at South Jones, along with the softball game at home between Laurel and the Lady War Eagles have been cancelled. In addition, a tennis match at home between WCHS and George County has been cancelled.

Residents are urged to be alert Monday night and throughout the day and evening on Tuesday as a line of thunderstorms makes its way through the area. The system could produce strong winds of up to 70 miles per hour along with heavy rain and even possibly hail.

Everyone is urged to remain in a safe location as the system makes its way through Wayne County. The storms are expected to move slowly through the area starting Tuesday morning and continuing into Tuesday night.

Be sure to move any outdoor plants, deck or lawn chairs and other items not anchored down indoors to keep them from becoming projectiles. Having a weather radio or other manner of receiving warnings is also highly recommended.
