ERNEST HOLLINGHEAD, JR.

April 6, 1952-March 11, 2022

Funeral services for Ernest Hollinghead, Jr., 69, of Buckatunna, were conducted on Monday, March 14, 2022 from Red Creek Church of God, with Rev. Ray Odom and Rev. Steve Watts officiating.

Interment followed at Red Creek Cemetery.

Born in Laurel on Sunday, April 6, 1952 to Ernest H. Hollinghead, Sr., and Viola Dearmon Hollinghead, he was a member of Red Creek Church of God. He worked most of his life in the oil field and was retired as a Roughneck.

He died on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Wayne General Hospital.

He is survived by his adopted daughter, Kristy Pitts; his brother, Daniel Hollinghead of Leakesville; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Velma Hollinghead of Chatom, Ala., Dollie Blount of Waynesboro and Diane and Billy Smith of Millry, Ala.; a granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis B. Hollinghead; his father, Ernest L. Hollinghead, Sr.; his mother, Viola Dearmon Hollinghead; his daughter, Haley M. Hollinghead; three brothers, Harold Hollinghead, James Hollinghead and Fred Hollinghead; and three sisters, Pearl Dearmon, Sue West and Betty Smith.

JOSEPH A. "JOE" BEARD, SR.

Dec. 18, 1950-March 12, 2022

A private memorial service for the family will be conducted for Joseph A. "Joe" Beard, Sr., 71, of Waynesboro.

Born in Waynesboro on Monday, Dec. 18, 1950 to Roland "Poley" Beard and Rowena Brewer Beard, he was a member of Bethel Assembly of God. He was retired from the oil field industry, where he worked as a Driller.

He died on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital Belhaven in Jackson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Vickie L. Beard of Waynesboro; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. "Joe" and Shelby W. Beard, Jr., of Buckatunna; two daughters, Samantha Lyn Beard and Emily Leigh Beard, both of Waynesboro; Trinity Hope Herring of Waynesboro, whom he raised as a daughter; and his sisters, Dianne B. Newman of Waynesboro and Portia Shelby Franks.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roland "Poley" Beard; his mother, Rowena Loper; and two brothers, George O. Beard and James C. Beard.

LILLIAN B. "PATSY" TONEY

Funeral services for Lillian B. "Patsy" Toney, 93, of Shubuta, were conducted on Monday, March 14, 2022 from Shubuta United Methodist Church, with Rev. Pamela Bruns and Rev. Ron Stanley officiating.

Interment followed in the Toney Family Cemetery in Shubuta.

Born in Brandon on Monday, Nov. 5, 1928 to Vanderbilt B. Baker and Lillie Whitley Baker, she was a member of Shubuta United Methodist Church. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and worked as a Teacher and Coach.

She died on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022 at her residence.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Ras Lee and Pat Toney, Jr., Brad Toney of Shubuta and Barry S. Toney of Dallas, Texas; her brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Jackie Sue Baker of Brandon; foru sisters and a brother-in-law, Ann and David Drye of Long Beach, Mary Steenhuis, Clara Tatum and Carol Baker, all of Brandon; her sister-in-law, Martha Baker of Brandon; her granddaughter and her spouse, Brielle and Brad Pepper of Flora; a great-grandson, Finley Ras Pepper of Flora; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ras Lee Toney, Sr.; her father, Vanderbilt B. Baker; her mother, Lillie Whitley Baker; two brothers, Max Baker and Jerry Baker; and her sister. Maxine Baker Jackson.

Pallbearers were Dudley Donald, Kenny Desporte, Howie Freeman, Martin Jenkins, David Dyre and Shaun Toney. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jack McHenry and Jim Morgan.

TAYLOR WOODROW HUFFMAN

Oct. 27, 1946-March 5, 2022

Graveside services for Taylor Woodrow Huffman, better known as Ted, 75, were conducted on Friday, March 11, 2022 from Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Roger Douglas officiating.

Born on Oct. 27, 1946 to Woodrow Huffman and Dean McIlwain Huffman in Quitman, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy and was a Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He then worked and retired from Diamond Drilling Company.

He was an active and loyal member of the following groups: Sons of Confederate Veterans, Samuel H. Powe Camp #255; Sons of Confederate Veterans Motorcycle Club; and Jazzy Brothers Motorcycle Club, Nomad Chapter, Indianapolis, Ind.

All who knew Ted knew of his love for all animals but especially Pup, Daisy, Mama Dog and Tom the cat. They will certainly miss him much.

He died peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at his resident.

He is survived by his niece, Carrie Huffman Collins; his nephew, Marty Huffman; his great-nephews and great-nieces, Woody Huffman, Anna Huffman, Paige Collins Jarmy, Maddie Collins and Luke Colling; a great-great-niece, Ivey Jane Jarmy; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Woodrow and Dean McIlwain Huffman; and his brother, Butch Huffman.

Graveside services for Christine Walker Toomey, 83, of Aquilla, Ala., were conducted on Friday, March 11, 2022 from Aquilla Cemetery, with Brother Dwight Mozingo officiating.

Born on May 6, 1938 in Grove Hill, Ala., to Nathan Joe and Dedy Goodman Walker, she was an avid reader and enjoyed needlework, singing and working in her yard. She also loved to make cakes for her grandchildren on special occasions.

She died on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Charles Toomey of Aquilla; her daughters, Dee Ann Toomey of Aquilla and Lori T. Mozingo of Wimberly, Ala.; her sister, Lola Mae Daughtery of New York; her grandchildren, Ryan Giles, Renee Adams and Leah Diamond; and her great-grandchildren, Claudia Diamond, Avery Adams, Aiden Adams, Spencer Adams, Blake Adams, Allie Giles, Evelyn Giles and Luke Ryan Giles.

She was preceded in death by her father, Nathan Joe Walker; her mother, Dedy Reay Goodman Walker; and her sister, Joan Wages.

Graveside services for Kathleen Thornton Dixon, 78, of State Line, were conducted on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 from Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Millry, Ala., with Rev. Tommy Ezell officiating.

Born in Washington County, Ala., on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1943 to Ed Thornton and Ruby Thornton, she was a member of Springbank Baptist Church in Chatom, Ala. She had worked as a Flora Designer at Lazy Dazy Florist in Chatom.

She died on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at her resident.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Richard Waites of State Line; her sister, Louise Clark of State Line; four grandchildren and their respective spouses, Andrew and Caila Savage of Citronelle, Ashton and Alex Etheridge of Waynesboro, Kathryn and Rusty Revette of State Line and Emily Waites of Laurel; and 11 great-grandchildren, Riley Savage, Paison Savage, Baine Savage, Caroline Savage, Emeree Etheridge, Layton Etheridge, Ramsey Etheridge, Cason Revette, Kenlee Dearmon, Titus Jones and Vincent Jones.

Interment followed at Lewis Chapel Cemetery in Buckatunna.

Born in Waynesboro on Thursday, May 30, 1946 to Willis Preston Harris and Erma Harris, he was a member of Tabernacle Holiness Church. He had worked as a Self-Employed Carpenter and was a Minister.

He served in the United States army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War Era.

He died on Friday, March 4, 2022 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Harris of Buckatunna; his son, William Thurston Harris of Buckatunna; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Mike Delmas and Stephanie and George McCary, all of Buckatunna; his brother and sister-in-law, Preston and Judy Harris of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Elzada Rawson and Ruth Kendrick, both of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren and their respective spouses, Kyle and Chelsa Savage, Kolby and Danielle Savage, Tory and Kae-Cee Harvison, Lexi and Seth Sullivan, Austin Delmas, Brent and Heather Kirkland, Shea and Ty Whigham, Brett and Bailey McCary and Taylor McCary; nine great-grandchildren; a special nephew, John Murray; and a special niece, Angelia Athcison.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell Glen and Rita Jones and Randy and Gail Jones, all of Millry; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Janice and David Gardner of Four Points, Ala., Ruby Shoultz of Millry, Sherry and Roy Moseley of Saint Stephens, Ala., and Kathy and Ken New of Satsuma, Ala.; 13 grandchildren and their respective spouses, Jason Gardner, Alex and Allison Gardner, Joey and Angel Moseley, Jada and Patrick Tolbert, Laura Moseley, Dara and Matt Murray, Keri and Wade Orso, Zack and Haleigh New, Michael New, Hali Jones, Joshua and Chelsea Bishop, Bridgett and Michael Hare and Kaitlin and Chad Loper; 24 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Born in Waynesboro on Friday, Nov. 1, 1957 to Albert Carley Smith and Bonnie Louella McLain Smith, he was a member of Lee's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He worked as a Food Service Manager with Summit Food Service.

He died on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022 at University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) in Birmingham, Ala.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Smith of Waynesboro; his daughter, Shawmayne Smith of Waynesboro; his godson, Caden Walley of Waynesboro; his brother, Mark Timothy Smith of Foxworth; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Carley Smith; his mother, Bonnie Louella Smith; three brothers, Carley Smith, Paul Smith and James Smith; and two sisters, Bonnie Cherry and Penny Lee.

Pallbearers were Bobby Walley, Ben Walley, J.T. Walley, Devin Walley, Corban Walley, Judd Stevens and Steven Bostick.
