JAMES GREGORY TYNES

May 27, 1960-July 5, 2026

Funeral services for James Gregory Tynes, 66, of Waynesboro, were 
conducted on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral 
Home, with Dr. Steve Smith officiating.

Interment followed at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Born in New Orleans, La., on Friday, May 27, 1960 to Rev. Jamie Warren 
Tynes and Patsy Cliburn Tynes, he was a member of First Baptist Church 
of Waynesboro. Although he was a jack of all trades, he retired as 
Safety Manager at Pilgrim Construction.

He died on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at the University of Mississippi Medical 
Center in Jackson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Cochran Tynes of Waynesboro; his 
son and daughter-in-law, Barrett Austin and Robyn Tynes of Foley, Ala.; 
his daughter and son-in-law, Kayla and Cole Hoover of Oxford; his 
brother and sister-in-law, Marshall Scott and Angi Tynes of Waynesboro; 
two grandchildren whom he absolutely adored, Garrett Reece Tynes and 
Sawyer Grace Tynes; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Rev. Jamie Warren 
Tynes and Patsy Cliburn Tynes.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. Tynes' name to the 
Gertrude C. Ford Hope Lodge, 2615 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216 or to 
the Baptist Children's Village.
