Officials are trying to identify the body of a female pulled from the
Chickasawhay River Monday afternoon.
Around noon Monday, emergency personnel were called to the boat ramp off
Highway 184 with a report of a dead body located in the river. Three men
traveling the river by boat discovered the body entangled in a brush
pile approximately a mile south of the boat ramp.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Wayne County Emergency
Management, Wayne General Hospital, Mississippi Department of Wildlife,
Fisheries and Parks and the Wayne County Coroner's Office all responded
to the scene.
According to Sheriff Jerry "Juice" Mosley, a boat was taken out on the
river and traveled to the location provided by the three men. There,
they found the body of what they assume is a middle-age woman.
The body was brought ashore and Deputy Coroner Blake Kelly transported
the body to Freeman Funeral Home. Investigators were expected to go
there to take photos of the body, as Mosley said tattoos on the body
might be used to identify the woman.
Kelly said he will be ordering an autopsy to determine the cause of
death. Mosley and Chief Deputy Geoffery Clark both said there appeared
to be no signs of trauma on the body.
Once made available, photos of the tattoos will be posted to this
website in an attempt to identify the victim.
This is a developing story. Check back to this website for any future
