Free Story — Correcting errors in front page story
December 03, 2025
There are errors in Thursday's front page story regarding family members of homicide victims meeting with local officials last week, and we wish to correct those errors at this time:
• Donna Thompson's 26-year-old son was the victim, not her daughter.
• Alfred Bishop is not John Gandy's mother, and John Gandy's mother was not at the meeting.
• Allison Shaw was not there either. The person present was Allison Slater Harris, who was there along with her family representing her uncle, Robert McGlenn Slater.
• Edith Mechelle Dzoole was the organizer for the event while Patrick Ruffin is the President of the group working with family members to hopefully bring justice and closure for everyone touched by the violence that took the life of their loved one.
Unfortunately, these errors were pointed to us after the paper had been printed for this week, so we are making this online correction and will also print the correction in the Dec. 11 edition of the printed paper.
We regret any inconvenience this may have caused and are happy to set the record straight at this time. We appreciate your understanding as we have a very limited staff that is often stretched very thin.
Thank you,
