A Quitman woman is facing a murder charge after an early Saturday morning domestic dispute led to wounds that killed her husband, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Department.

WCSO Chief Deputy Mike Mozingo said deputies were called to the scene of a shooting incident on Highway 63 just past the river bridge around 2 a.m. Saturday. Once there, they found Brian Dikes wounded and his wife, Susan Ashley Dikes, 49, of County Road in Quitman, at the scene.

"The suspect said she had shot her husband and she turned over a Smith & Wesson .380 to deputies at the scene," Mozingo said. "The victim was transported to Wayne General Hospital and the suspect was taken into custody.

"The victim was later transported to a hospital in Jackson, where we learned on Monday morning that he had died." The victim also was a resident of Quitman.

The suspect was originally charged with aggravated domestic violence, and Justice Court Judge Charles Chapman set bond at $10,000. Mozingo said the charge was being upgraded to murder and a hold was placed on Dikes by the Sheriff's Department. It was expected that a new bond would be set in the case.

The case is expected to be presented to the next session of the Wayne County Grand Jury.
