BARBARA LEIGH CHAPMAN DOHERTY

A Celebration of Life for Barbara Leigh Chapman Doherty, 82, of 
Waynesboro, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from Hebron 
United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, with Rev. Trae Norsworthy and 
Elder Cecil Wiley officiating. Visitation will be from 10-10:30 a.m. on 
Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Hebron United Methodist Church.
Following the funeral service, interment will take place at Hebron 
Cemetery in Wayne County.
Born in Waynesboro on Monday, Jan. 11, 1943 to the late Paul Henry 
Chapman, Sr., and Pauline Hedy Windham Chapman, she retired as an 
Elementary Principal for the Mobile County (Ala.) Public School System.
She died on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Alden Point Assisted Living in 
Hattiesburg.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Wynona Chapman and 
Cecil Wiley of Hattiesburg; three nephews and their spouses, Trae and 
Amy Norsworthy of Baton Rouge, La., Brandon Ashley and Jennifer 
Norsworthy of Brandon and Christopher Paul Chapman of Bradenton, Fla.; 
and her niece and her spouse, Kimberly and Ben Edwards of Brandon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Henry Chapman, Sr., and 
Pauline Hedy Windham Chapman; her daughter, Monica Lane Morales; and her 
brother, Paul Henry Chapman, Jr.

MARLON W. WEST
April 11, 1946-June 7, 2025
Funeral services for Marlon W. West, 79, of Clara, were conducted on 
Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from Clara Church of God in Clara, with Rev. Judd 
Vowell, Rev. Brandon Saksa and Rev. Eddie Bean officiating.
Interment followed at White House Cemetery in Waynesboro.
Born in Wayne County on Thursday, April 11, 1946 to the late Gavin and 
Josephine West, he was a member of Clara Church of God. He served in the 
United States National Guard and also worked as a Funeral Director with 
Freeman Funeral Home.
He later retired after serving as Coroner and Chancery Clerk for Wayne 
County.
He died on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at his residence, surrounded by his 
loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sarah Stewart West of 
Clara; his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Mark Thomas of Clara; his 
brother, Dalton Loron West of Purvis; five grandchildren and their 
respective spouses, Josh and Jazlyn Thomas of Buckatunna, Maranda and 
Randy Nelson of Clara, Garrett and Megan Waites of Mooresville, N.C., 
Caleb and Mallory Thomas of Clara and John "Gopher" and Leigh Anne 
Cochran of Petal; 12 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Nathan, Paislie, 
Kendall, P.K. Easton, Ellie, Gavin, Sawyer, Sarah Catherine, Will and 
Luke; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gavin and Josephine West; his 
son, Jeff West; two sisters, Reon Holifield and Mildred Taylor; and his 
brother, Rayford West.

VONCILE "VONNIE" ELLIS
April 30, 1946-June 3, 2025
Graveside services for Voncile "Vonnie" Ellis, 79, of the Altair 
community, were conducted on Monday, June 9, 2025, with Rev. Tyrone 
Spencer officiating.
Born on April 30, 1946, she was a Housekeeper with Eden Park Nursing 
Home in Albany, N.Y.
She died on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at South Central Regional Hospital in 
Laurel.
She is survived by her husband, Milton Ellis; her daughters and 
son-in-law, Gail A. Ellis, Jerri and Matthew Hayes, Deloris Ellis, 
Rachel Ellis and Olivia Gilmore; her siblings and their spouses, Willie 
H. and Evelyn Gilmore and Debbie Craft; 16 grandchildren, a host of 
great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, 
cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Femae and Earnest Gilmore; and 
her brother, Earnest Gilmore, Jr.

HAZEL MCNEIL JACKSON
June 10, 1934-June 3, 2025
Funeral services for Hazel McNeil Jackson, 90, of Waynesboro, were 
conducted on Friday, June 6, 2025 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral 
Home, with Rev. Brad Nicholson officiating.
Interment followed at Zion's Rest Cemetery in Eucutta.
Born in Shubuta on Sunday, June 10, 1934 to the late George and Virginia 
"Virgie" McNeil, she retired as an Assembly worker with Northern 
Electric Company. She loved playing with her grandchildren, gardening 
and enjoyed a good yard sale.
She died on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Pine View Health and Rehabilitation 
in Waynesboro.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl Sosa and Peter 
Smith of Jonesboro, Ark.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Roberts 
and Jimmy and Debbie Roberts, all of Waynesboro; her sister, Anita 
"Tennie" Thomas of Eucutta; and a host of grandchildren, 
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David JAckson; her parents, 
George and Virginia "Virgie" McNeil; her stepmother, Eula Mae 
McNeil; three sons, George Roberts, Glen Roberts, Sr., and Larry 
Roberts; three sisters, Lila Dean, Wilma Smith and Bobbie Twiner; her 
half-sister, Dorothy Hershey; her granddaughter, Tammy Jordan; two 
great-granddaughters, Kailynn Nicholson and Maggie Rogers; a 
great-grandson, Braden Nicholson; and a great-great-grandson. Canaan

A celebration of life for Annie Lou "Ann" Ratcliff Smith Bumpers, 
96, was conducted on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from Aquilla Community 
Church.
A private family burial was conducted prior to the service, with Rev. 
Fred Tommey officiating.
Born on Aug. 24, 1928, she died peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 
her residence, surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her beloved children and their respective spouses, 
Waurice and Pattie, Rickey and Lynn, B.K., Jr., Micky and Lolita, TyAnne 
and Gary and Randy; her adored grandchildren and their respective 
spouses, Alisa and Ben Berteau, Todd and April Smith, Chad and Karen 
Smith, Brett Smith, Keith and Nicole Smith, Jessica and Justin Smith, 
Anita and Clay Lovelady, Laura and Miles Hester, Amanda and Rod Wagner, 
Ashley and Bubba Bunch and Adrienne and J.D. Powell; and a growing 
number of great-grandchildren, including Linlee, Conner, Sidney, Hallie, 
Ava, Logan, Maleigh, Grant, Remington, Harley, Henry, Harmon, Joseph, 
Ben, Sarah, Whitley, Price, Tripp, Hunter, Katie Anne, Emma Kate, 
Ryleigh, Caroline and Mary Katherine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.K. Smith, Sr., and her 
grandson, Justin L. Smith.

LINDA LOU MCRAE "BIG MAMA" STEVENS

Funeral services for Linda Lou McRae "Big Mama" Stevens, 79, of 
Waynesboro, were conducted on Friday, June 6, 2025 from the Chapel of 
Freeman Funeral Home, with Rev. Mitchell Smith, Rev. Mike Street and Dr. 
Stephen Smith officiating.
Interment followed at West Shady Grove Cemetery in Waynesboro.
Born in Waynesboro on Tuesday, March 26, 1946 to the late Melvin and 
Laverne McRae, she was a member of West Shady Grove Baptist church. She 
retired as a Bus Driver and Cafeteria Worker with the Wayne County 
School District.
She died on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Pine View Health and Rehabilitation 
in Waynesboro.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Billy Stevens of 
Wayneboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dewayne and Vickie Stevens of 
Buckatunn and Daryl and Chris Stevens of Waynesboro; her daughter and 
son-in-law, Crystale Stevens and Matt West of Waynesboro; two brothers, 
Charlie McRae of Waynesboro and Buddy McRae of Wilmer, Ala.; six 
grandchildren and their respective spouses, Jonathan and Holly Stevens, 
Sha Page, Colby and Ashtin Stevens, Dalyn and Jared Cochran, Brooklyn 
West and Jackson West; seven great-grandchildren, River, Lane, Champ, 
Hadley, Ridge, Quinn and Jynks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Laverne McRae; two 
brothers, David McRae and Jerry McRae; and a sister, Elizabeth Sims.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Stevens, Colby Stevens, Lane Stevens, Jackson 
West, Tyler Williamson and Thoye Pitts. Honorary pallbearers were Champ 
Nelson and Jared Cochran.
