Funeral services for Merlene "Granny" Williams, 92, of Waynesboro, will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home, with Rev. Reed Houston and Rev. David Tennyson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 from the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home.

Following the funeral service, interment will take place in Hollis Creek Cemetery in Wayne County.

Born in Wayne County on Sunday, Nov. 24, 1929 to Tom and Ollie Mae Nicholson, she died on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her son and his spouse, Mark and John Williams of Gulfport; six daughters and their respective spouses, Shirley and Gerald McNeese of Prentiss, Wilda and Royce Williamson of Sumrall, Caffey and Tommy Moree of Sumrall, Mildred and Mark Nolting of Columbia, Betty and Mike McInnis of Prentiss and Debbie and Lynn Barnett of Fairford, Ala.; a stepson, John Williams of Waynesboro; two stepdaughters and their respective spouses, Kathy and Rudy Palmer of Waynesboro and Lisa and Kyle Courtney of New Augusta; four sisters, Maudie Lee Nicholson of Waynesboro, Zarazade Best of Richton, Margaret Freeman of Sand Hill and Tommie Lee Watson of New Orleans, La.; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B.W. Williams; her birth parents, Tom and Ollie Mae Nicholson; her adoptive parents, Sol and Fannie Louise West; her son, David Robertson; four brothers, Joe Nicholson, Allen Nicholson, Earl Nicholson and Mack Nicholson; and three sisters, Ruby Watson, Flossie Jordan and Myranda Waller.

Pallbearers will be Michael Williamson, Clayton Moree, Bobby Moree, Kevin Raynes, Scottie Moree and Tim Lee. Honorary pallbearer is Michael Beard.
