A 30-minute weather delay postponed things for a little while, but Wayne Academy's Jaguars christened the newly renovated T.F. Giles Field with a convincing 34-7 win over Brookhaven Academy Friday night.

The Jaguars now have an open week before hitting the road to face Richton on Aug. 30.

Lightning in the area caused kickoff to be delayed by roughly 30 minutes, then the Cougars took the opening kickoff and methodically ran 15 straight running plays, capping off the nearly 9-minute drive with a 3-yard run that made it 7-0 with 3:01 left in the opening quarter.

The Jaguars answered quickly, with Will McRee hitting Jalen Jones on a 62-yard pass on W.A.'s first offensive play of the season. Colton Stringer's extra point made it 7-7 with 2:44 left.

In the second quarter, Jones hauled in a 4-yard pass from McRee, and the Stringer extra point opened up a 14-7 lead for the Jags.

With two seconds left before the intermission, Drake Frasier snatched a high pass from McRee and turned it into a 10-yard scoring strike. The Stringer extra point made it 21-7 at the half.

With 9:23 left in the third quarter, McRee scored on a 3-yard run, with Stringer's extra point making it 28-7.

Midway through the fourth quarter, with 5:55 remaining, Michael Jordan scored on a 1-yard run to set the final margin.
