Funeral services for Earnest Joe Wooten, 59, of Wayne County, will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home, with Rev. Thomas Cochran and Rev. Deke Cochran officiating. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022 from the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home.

Following the funeral service, interment will take place at Sellers Cemetery in Wayne County.

Born in Waynesboro on Sunday, Sept. 9, 1962 to Earnest Joe and Maxine Holliday Wooten, he worked as an Offshore Lead Mechanic in the oil industry.

He died on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in Birmingham, Ala.

He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Teressa Wooten of Wayne County; two sons and daughters-in-law, Earnest Joe and Amber Wooten III of Wayne County and Khrisopher and Kirsten Wooten of Mosell; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Carl Wooten of Laurel, Dan and Darlene Wooten of Wayne County and Wess and Rhonda Bufkin of Crystal Spring; a sister, Debra Wooten of Wesson; 14 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Joe Wooten; his mother, Maxine Holliday Bufkin; and a brother, Steve Wooten.
