Suspect arrested in Sunday afternoon shooting incident

A suspect was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after allegedly
shooting multiple shots into the Dixie Electric building then brandished
his weapon at police officers.
At roughly 1:30 p.m. Sunday, reports of shots being fired at Dixie
Electric and on Court Street behind Azalea Mart. Both the Waynesboro
Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to the
Court Street incident.
Officers arrived on the scene and confronted the suspect, a white male
who has not been identified at this time because he has not been
formally charged. According to reports, the suspect pointed a gun at the
officers. K-9 Officer Jagger was released and eventually was
apprehended. The suspect suffered a bite from Jagger during the
apprehension.
The suspect was transported to Wayne General Hospital and was expected
to be formally charged after he is released from that facility.
Multiple shell casings were discovered at Dixie Electric, where the
glass in the front door has been shattered by bullets. Eyewitnesses were
able to give statements to law enforcement after the arrest was made.
