Wayne County's Board of Supervisors extended the countywide burn ban to Nov. 14 during a meeting Thursday morning.
The ban was put in place late in the summer due to extremely dry conditions. The rain on Wednesday was not enough to relieve the drought conditions, so supervisors voted to extend the ban.
The ban will be in effect through Nov. 14 and covers all outside burning of debris, trash and other items. Only members of the Mississippi Forestry Commission and people certified by the state to conduct controlled burns will be exempt from this ban.
Violations of this ban can result in fines and even imprisonment, along with liability for any property or equipment that is damaged by a fire.
A healthy Wayne County County requires great community news.
