Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and follow leads
after a Monday night drive-by shooting left a man dead.
According to Waynesboro Police Department Investigations Commander
Lieutenant Don Hopkins, Kenneth Johnson, 26, was shot at a residence on
Martin Luther King Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. He was
transported to Wayne General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"At 7:50 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to the scene of shots
being fired at 212 MLK," Hopkins said. "When officers arrived, they
were told the victim had been taken to Wayne General by personal
vehicle."
Officers encountered that vehicle and the incoming ambulance near the
intersection of Wayne Street and Turner Street and escorted both to the
hospital.
"Investigator Macy Torrey went to the hospital and I went to the
scene," Hopkins said. "We found multiple shell casings at the scene,
and witnesses said multiple shots had been fired.
"The residents and friends were outside of the home when the shooting
happened."
According to Hopkins, the victim was allegedly walking back to his home
and was shot several times when he got to his driveway.
"Witnesses provided information that could lead to an arrest,"
Hopkins said, including a description of the vehicle. That and other
information was not being released at this time as the investigation
continues.
"Leads are being followed in this case, and we will continue following
those leads while seeking to make an arrest."
