Burn ban in effect through Oct. 14

Wayne County has been placed under a burn ban through Oct. 14, it was announced Thursday morning.
Emergency Management and Fire Department officials requested a burn ban from the state after numerous brush fires have broken out over the past few weeks. Just Thursday morning, firefighters responded to three brush or grass fires within a two-hour span.
The ban was officially put into place on Monday.
The ban will be in effect from Aug. 14 through Oct. 14. The only people exempted from the ban will be the Mississippi Forestry Commission and Certified Burn Managers.
Residents are reminded that they could be ticketed for violating the burn ban. With dry conditions such as the area has had over the past month, burning trash and/or vegetative debris is not allowed until conditions are more favorable for such burning.
