A man was taken into custody Wednesday morning after an investigation
that started with a July 1 stabbing incident.
According to Waynesboro Police Department Investigations Commander Lt.
Don Hopkins, the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 1
at a party at a residence on Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard.
Hopkins said the victim, Marcus Bell, and the suspect, Robert Samuel
Terrell, got into a verbal argument that escalated into a physical
altercation.
"Witnesses said the suspect stabbed the victim in the back three or
four times, then stabbed him in the abdomen two times," Hopkins said.
"The victim went home after the altercation and was later transported
to Wayne General Hospital.
"Once there, it was determined that the wounds were more serious than
first thought and the victim was taken to Hattiesburg to have emergency
surgery. The victim is now currently under a doctor's care at an
undisclosed location."
Hopkins said that witnesses had identified Terrell as the suspect and he
and other officers had been looking for him. Around 9 a.m. Wednesday
morning, the suspect was taken into custody and charged with aggravated
assault with a deadly weapon.
He was expected to make his initial appearance in Municipal Court no
later than Thursday.
