Arrest warrants issued; WCSO recovers evidence but still seeking shooting suspects

Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies on Tuesday night executed a number of
search warrants and searched for suspects in last week's shootings
that left a 4-year-old boy and two women wounded.
Sheriff Jody Ashley said Justice Court Judge Charles Chapman signed
arrest warrants around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, and deputies put together a
detail to try and execute those warrants.
Deputies stopped at a residence on Turner Street but did not find the
suspect there. In talking with people in the area, the department did
arrest a juvenile wanted on charges not related to the shootings. That
suspect's name is not being released due to his age.
Ashley said the detail then moved to Winchester Crossroads where a
suspect was believed to be living in a trailer. While no suspect was
taken into custody, numerous rounds of ammunition and shell casings were
recovered and are being sent off to the Crime Lab for analysis. Ashley
said some of those rounds and casings were of the same calibre used in
the shootings on County Lake-Denham Road and Reservoir Road.
The detail them moved south to State Line-Battles Road where a suspect
was believed to be staying. Ashley said information also indicated there
were several weapons in the house. When deputies executed the search
warrant, they found the home to be totally empty, though.
"This is the first time we have had someone come in and sign an
affidavit so that we can pursue suspects," Ashley said. "We're
finally getting people to come forward with information."
Chief Deputy Jason Wiggins said the judges are also working "hand in
hand" with law enforcement to try and make arrests in this case and
other recent shooting incidents. Wiggins said he and the Sheriff both
will personally offer a cash reward of $1,000 to anyone who comes
forward with information that leads directly to the arrest of the
suspects who shot the children.
"Four more subjects are being sought," Ashley said. "We know how
they are and we will arrest them."
