Warming shelter to open today at Sheriff's Office

As potentially harmful winter weather makes its way through the area, Wayne County Emergency Management has announced that a warming shelter will open today at 4 p.m.

The shelter will be located in the courtroom of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, located at 613 Court Street. It is intended for those who do not have a place to stay that is protected from the elements.

While today's weather should be mild — with temperatures in the 50s and 60s, things will get very cold early Friday morning, with the low expected to be 17 both Friday and Saturday with highs of 35. On Christmas Day, the low is expected to be 21 with a high of 40. After today, there is no significant rainfall forecast.

Everyone is asked to only use the shelter if you do not have adequate protection from the elements, as space in the courtroom is limited.
