Simpson too much for Jaguars

POPLARVILLE — Wayne Academy had few answers Friday afternoon against Simpson Academy as the Cougars rolled to a 50-7 win at Pearl River Community College.
The loss dropped the Jaguars to 1-1 on the year heading into an open week before opening district play on Friday, Sept. 9 on the road against Bowling Green, La.
The Cougars rolled up 541 yards of total offense while holding the Jaguars to 106 yards. Simpson also scored with ease in the first half, rolling up 44 points to set the running block mercy rule into effect for the second half.
The Cougars scored on a 5-yard run, a 78-yard pass and a 24-yard field goal to jump out to a 17-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
In the second period, Simpson scored on runs of 5 and 67 yards, then added a 46-yard touchdown pass to make it 36-0 with 4:!6 remaining in the half.
With 1:36 left before the intermission, Jonathan Nicholson hit Davin Lowery in stride for a 36-yard touchdown pass. The Colton Stringer kick made it 36-7 with 1:36 left before halftime.
Simpson wasted no time in answering the score, promptly marching downfield before an 11-yard pass and the two-point conversion made it 44-7 at halftime.
Simpson would add a 9-yard touchdown pass with 3:09 in the third quarter to close out the scoring.
