Emergency personnel extinguishes oil/gas fire
Firefighters quickly put out a fire at an oil and gas facility in Clara Thursday afternoon.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene of a fire involving oil storage tanks, a gas pipeline and a large propane tank. The facility was located off Ivy Gene West Drive in Clara.
Utilizing foam and water, firefighters were able to control the blaze quickly. Officials also cut the flow of gas off in the early stages, allowing the pressure to be relieved and the gas to burn off. It also made it easier for firefighters to battle the blaze.
Huge plumes of dark black smoke rolled through the skies along Ivy Gene West Drive and Clara Road, but once the flames were put out the smoke cleared out extremely fast.
No one was injured in the incident.
Officials from the Mississippi Oil and Gas Board were also on the scene. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
