A private service for Donald Boone Harris, Sr., will be conducted at a later date.
Born in Greeneville, Tenn., he grew up in Centreville, Ala. After graduation from Auburn University with degrees in Economics, Forestry and Botany, he served as an officer with the United States Navy aboard the USS Alameda County and USS Tallahatchie County in Naples, Italy.
He began his career in the financial services industry as a stockbroker with Legg & Co., in Baltimore, Md., and E.F. Hutton in Raleigh, N.C. before founding the first discount brokerage firm in Columbia, S.C. — Brokers Exchange, Inc.
He died on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, S.C.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Wright Harris; his children, Heather Wright Spoon and Donald B. Harris, Jr.; his grandchildren, Taylor Boone and Eden Savannah Harris; his great-grandchildren, Avery Grace Stone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents were Lester Leroy and Bernice Sellers Harris and his two brothers are Alvin Leroy “Mickey” and the late Richard Lester Harris.
The family wishes to express thanks to TRMC, Pruitt Healthcare and their dear family friend, Jimmy Smith.
