Funeral services for Bodie Jackson Baygents, 98, of Waynesboro, will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 from Harvest Temple Church of God, with Rev. Edward Bean, Rev. Norman Hartshorn and Rev. Phillip Gandy officiating. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 from the Parlor of Freeman Funeral, followed by a lie-in-state from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 at Harvest Temple Church of God.
Following the funeral service, interment will take place at White House Cemetery.
Born in Wayne County on Monday, Aug. 16, 1920 to Walter Wallace Baygents and Phoebia Ann Baygents, he was a member of Clara Church of God.
He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was self-employed in the Cattle Industry as a Livestock dealer.
He died on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 at Brookwood Villa Personal Care Home in Waynesboro.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Walter Perry and Tanya Baygents of Waynesboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Bidmer Ray Walker of Waynesboro, Marge Baygents and Tim Stark of Atchison, Kan.; five grandchildren and their respective spouses, B.J. and Melissa Walker, Michelle and Robert Johnson, Gordan and Jenci Baygents, Jillian Baygents and Zachary Lancaster;  seven great-grandchildren, Adam Johnson, Chris Johnson, Valarie Taylor, Jack Walker, Alaina Walker, Canon Baygents and Clayton Baygents; and four great-great-grandchildren, Bentley Johnson, Cooper Taylor, Carson Taylor and Brooklyn Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Brewer Baygents; his father, Walter Wallace Baygents; his mother, Phoebie Ann Baygents; four brothers; to sisters; a grandson, Jess Lancaster; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Teresa Baygents.
