Weda S. Hudson

Mrs. Weda S. Hudson, 83, of Waynesboro, passed from this life on Monday, May 7, 2018.
She was born in Smithville, Miss., on Monday, May 14, 1934 to Coy Cleveland Suggs and Minnie Lee Suggs. AFter graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, she moved to Waynesboro and subsequently served as the Wayne County Home Economist. She was also a substitute school teacher in the Waynesboro Public School System for many years. She was a member of Waynesboro Presbyterian Church.
Weda was a recipient of the Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Citizenship Award and was a member of the Fine Arts Club for more than 50 years. She was a Charter Member of the Junior Auxiliary.
Weda was a long-time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), where she served on both State and Local Boards. She received the 2017 Mississippi State Society DAR Outstanding Daughter Award.
Weda is preceded in death by her father, Coy Cleveland Suggs; her mother, Minnie Lee Suggs; and a brother, J.W. Suggs.
She is survived by her husband, Spencer D. Hudson of Waynesboro; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Spencer D. and Robin Hudson, Jr., and Cleveland Alexander Hudson, all of Hattiesburg; a brother, Edward C. Suggs of Smithville; a sister and brother-in-law, Lane Suggs and Donald Booker of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Winston Hudson, Reid Hudson and Luke Hudson, all of Hattiesburg.
A visitation for Weda will be from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from the Parlor of Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home, with Rev. Allen Stanton officiating.
Interment will be in Serenity Gardens Cemetery.
