I think the fact that we as a county are trying to make our county "wet" again defines our current spirituality here in this county. We are supposed to be Bible believing Christians here people!! For those of you who call yourselves Christians and vote for liquor to come here are living a lie and no truth is in you at all!! I am continuing to pray against this evil spirit of bondage and addiction that continues to plague our county. In the end good will triumph evil again!! It always does!

The people who are against the vote on alcohol as expressed in this forum seem to, in expressing their opinions, always include an attack on those who are opposed to thier ideas.

Folks, I have to say Ive seen the good and the bad when it comes to issues, but the ranting on this particular issue is just plain ugly. First of all this is more than just an issue of whether or not to allow liquor by the drink; it's an issue of allowing the people of the city of Waynesboro to voice their opinion and vote. Secondly, we all need to take a breath and look at this issue for what it is; an option to allow the city to attract busines to bolster our econonmy. Now before everyone begins hammering away at there reluctance and perhaps disdain for alcohol let me make this clear I AM NOT A DRINKER! I dont consume it in any fashion even in the form of over the counter cold medications; however, I fully support the RIGHT of a local municipality to vote on an issue that will impact the overall economy and yes even the moral codes of many. Please use some civility in this debate and look the FACTS of the issue at hand before you elect to judge a person's character and even their faith.

Someone please tell me how liquor by the drink is going to boost our economy. I drink, and I dont really care one way or the other on the vote, but if anyone thinks that an Applebees or Outback or any other restaurant of that size is going to build in a city the size of Waynesboro , you need a reality check. Name one current restaurant that is going to serve it, I dont believe there is one. Basically you are going to have the Red Carpet and The High Noon selling mixed drinks and from my understanding, the city will receive 18% of the 7% sales tax. So on an $8.00 drink, you will have 56 cents sales tax. The city will get 18% of that which is around 10 cents for every 8.00 drink sold. Now, we already get that money on the beer they sell so basically we will gain revenue off of only the new customers that go there because of the mixed drinks. If you want liquor by the drink because you want to be able to buy one and drink it, I dont have a problem wih that. Just say that and dont try to feed me some line about boosting the economy because it isnt even a logical argument. I guess you think some guy in "The Outback" corporation is sitting around thinking, "boy we could get rich by building a restaurant in Waynesboro, MS..............if they would just pass that liquor by the drink law. Really?????????????

No one in their "right mind" has ever said if we get to have a restaurant that serves drinks by the glass that that will solve "all" of our economic problems. What has been said is that it could be a "small" step in the right direction economically. While that is an important issue, the real issue was being allowed the right to vote. No thanks to our closed minded elected officials we will get that right sometime in the future.

Hey Private! Welcome to the Whisky Party!! Again, one small step! You are for the vote! Now we need to get Prostitition on that ballot and drugs! That would be three small steps! Its is so good to know that there are people out there like you private who along with me and others want the vote on progress like alcohol, drugs and prostittution! WELCOME PRIVATE

Really Really?????? Really? I thought that one of the main things for supporting this liquor by the drink was promoting economic development. In reading the editorials of this paper that seems to be the thing. Thats all the paper has said for it seems like two years. Wabo Chick said that our Waynesboro will "profit greatly" from selling alcohol. The voice of Reason talks about all of the jobs alcohol brought here even down to insurance sales and the domino effect on the economy. Mashburn says that it will help our students get new books showing Obama as the president. Opinon wants Liquor but does not want a DOdge City. Did they serve whisky in Dodge City? Opinion want to only vote on what he is for but nothing else. Then there is this guy who don't drink but thinks that liquor will bolster our economy. Then revolutionary says that drugs and prostitition will even enhance our economy on the same line of thought that the paper and other economic minded folk seem to think alcohol will do. And now you say that alcohol wont help us economiclly that much. Sounds like the Revolutionay has the right idea if it is all about the economy.

Waynesboro is never going to be a convention center regardless of liquor. Who would want to go to a convention where: No movie theaters, no bowling, no outstanding restaurants, no bars, no pool halls, and nothing much for kids to do. I would like to see liquor by the drink but I don't expect Waynesboro to have one of the high class restaurants where wine is $20 a glass or they charge $40 to uncork the bottle of wine that you bring in!

I was reading over the new proposed Wayne County K-8 School handbook. First, it is obvious this was hastily written without much proofreading. It is absolutely littered with grammatical errors along with numerous statements which make little or no sense. Just read the "Work In Now (WIN)" section. However, what I found the most troublesome is the blatantly racist policy being implemented known as "Majority to Minority Transfer Policy." The introduction to the handbook includes the statement "The Wayne County School District does not discriminate on the basis of race ...", however, in the new transfer policy it states the following: "The school district shall permit a student attending a school in which his race is in the majority to choose to attend another school where his race is in the minority." Courts have consistently ruled that you cannot address segregation with racist policies, which is precisely what this is attempting. I also find it strange that the anti-bullying policies for the K-8 and the High School handbooks are VASTLY different. Additionally, the High School handbook provides a series of appeals for the supposed 'victim' if they are unhappy with the disciplinary action taken upon the 'accused', however gives absolutely no appeals whatsoever to the accused. I encourage every parent of a student in the Wayne County School system to read these handbooks which are soon to be presented to the Wayne County School Board for approval.

Here is a post that I have submitted a number of times over the past several days. It appears that it is being overlooked. Can you please see that it gets posted? Thanks for the medium of expression that you are providing...Sincerely, Revoltionary!!! Yes Yes Yes whoever you are. There is no room for casting stones. Let's let the people decide on how to bolster the local economy. If the people think liquor will bloster the local economy imagine the addition of the other vices, drugs and prostituion. With the legalization of prostitution alone here, with Liquor by the drink of course, Waynesboro would have hundreds of thousands of visitors a year. Motels, restaraunts, and sales tax $$$$$$ for our children to have a vibrant community! Why only liquor? If you really are open minded and if you really think this kind of thing will "Bolster" the economy, why not prostitution and drugs? Waynesboro, Mississippi...the new Amsterdam!! Talk about a booming economy!!! I mean alcohol is a drug anyway isn’t it?

It appears that a couple posters on this matter, have a completely different agenda than what they would lead you to believe. It's hard to tell a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing unless you know what a Wolf looks like. This topic was originally about responsible tax paying citizens being afforded the right to vote on an issue that may or may not effect the economy, that will be left up to forward thinking individuals whom may or may not profit from it. The further this topic goes, the more I see post that would turn the most hardcore drunkards against voting for this, and these post mind you, are being written by individuals whom pretend to want this vote to come to be. Wayne County may or may not prosper from liquor sales, and I don't believe the majority of people whom want to vote on this issue care, it's just that they want the right to make responsible and personal decisions that effect their life.

Submitted By: Revolutionary Submitted: 5/4/2012
Amen Opinion! From one concerned responsible citizen to another I agree! We have to be careful bout these types trying to undermine our rights! We have been held down long enough. These people you speak of want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to pick issues that only they care about while responsible tax paying citizens like you and me get boxed out over and over! But you and I see through that! We have to be diligent in our pursuit of freedom!! Thanks for your support Opinoin...LET"S VOTE!

Submitted By: Observation Submitted: 5/7/2012
Revolutionary wants the people to be free to vote on all issues that effect their lives. He states it over and over and over..YAWN Opinoin says; "it's just that they want the right to make responsible and personal decisions that effect their life." He seems to be an elitist that just wants to vote on the issues that matter to him and no one else.

Submitted By: Opinion Submitted: 5/8/2012
I.m all for voting on a lot of things that we'll never see on a ballot, but let me make something clear, legalized prostitution and drugs are two things I hope to never see on a ballot here in Wayne County. Observation, your free to observe, d-cipher, and spin that anyway you want, It,s only one person's opinion, so don't take it so seriously. I also remember that when this topic was started it was about having the right to vote on liquor sales in Wayne County and I prefer to keep with that topic.

Submitted By: Revolutionary Submitted: 5/9/2012
WHAT??? Opinion say it ain't so!! You are against having a vote on bringing drugs and prostitution on a ballot with Whisky by the drink? So that I understand, you only want to pick items to vote on that appeal to you while shutting out the rights and conerns of others? Surely that can not be true?

Submitted By: Revolution Submitted: 5/9/2012
And Mr. Observation...do you have a position or do you merely want to sit back, taking the easy road, and evaluate what others say? And, do I bore you?

Submitted By: Observer Submitted: 5/14/2012
The last person leaving Waynesboro, please turn out the lights.

I am just sitting here taking it all in. People! If you think there's no alcohol, drugs and prostitytion in Wayne Count, take another look. I have lived all over the South East and North East. Waynesboro, Mississippi, is by far the worst place, as far as "partying", that I have ever lived. I was born and raised in Wayne County. It is NOT the Mayberry you all are so concerned about. Step back, look around, watch the news, read the paper. What difference does it make as to whether or not restaurants can serve alcohol? Your concerns should be more focused on the community as a whole. Eat, drink, be happy. Voting is your right and you should have the right to vote on anything that concerns the community. But alcohol consumption in Wayne county is not the issue. There is plenty of beer, legally, and hard liquor, (if you know where to look). Drugs are abundant and prostitution is already there. I my opinion, you should all voice your opinions on how to deal with what is already at hand in the fair town of Waynesboro. And if you don't believe me, ask your kids!

Submitted By: Megatron Submitted: 5/16/2012
I am so glad I don't live in Wayne County any more. Do you really think alcohol is going to make that place any worse? About 95% of you holier than thou, judgemental, hate filled, "Christians" need a good drink. WAKE UP! It is not 1890 any more! There are places in the country that are thriving and you can buy liquor in the grocery store! Wayne County is not the be all end all of the Universe, people!

I hate to see Coach Skelton go. A nice picture was painted but I gurantee you the reason she is leaving is because she was not made the AD. She was the assistant and wanted to be moved up at Coach Boyle's leaving. Upon realizing that was not going to happen...well hello Quitman. Big Mistake by the powers that be to let her get away. Watch who they make AD now.....very interesting this political thing.

Submitted By: Observation Submitted: 5/17/2012
Nice little article on Coach Skelton's moving to Quitman. But....I guranantee you that she left because she was not made the AD. She had been the assistant and was led to believe that she would get the AD position at Boyles' departure. She realaized she was not gonna get it so she left. WHAT A SHAME...Politics cost us one of the greatest women's basketball coaches in MS history and what would have been a fantastic AD

Lost in this "whiskey or not" is that right to vote. However, further still is the microscopic opinion that all we get is 18% of 7% of an $8.00 drink, or $ .10 per round. Most of the currently popular restuarants (like APPLEBEE'S and CHILI'S) cost more than a million dollars to build and the average employment is 28 persons. The current property taxing structure says non-homestead properties are assessed @ 15% of value or $150,000. minimum for one of these. Based on the current city and county millage, that would be approximately $16,000 in annual property tax to go along with the $ .10 per shot. And what about the 28 jobs?? This is far greated impact than just the sales tax. I have rarely been in one of these restuarants in Laurel, Meridian, or Hattiesburg that I did not see someone from Wayne County. Probably will get voted down, but lack of forward thinking outside the box is why we are a disgrace and laughing stock of South Miss......Cheers!!!

Here is a quote from Really..."If you want liquor by the drink because you want to be able to buy one and drink it, I dont have a problem wih that. Really?????????????" I would add from Taxpayer's post.."Most of the currently popular restuarants (like APPLEBEE'S and CHILI'S)" It will pass but, in the words of the Taxpayer, "the currently popular", will not come.

Submitted By: Don't we have Beer?? Submitted: 5/17/2012
For those who are questioning the Christianity of anyone who supports the by the drink idea, I take offense at you suggesting that MY or anyone else's Christianity is faulty just because we may support the idea. Don't we already have beer here? Don't people already drink and drive here? Don't they get drunk? Adding a by the drink law would not make the problem worse, Those who do it will continue to and those who think it is wrong won't.

Wow, how backward we go. I grew up in Waynesboro and left in 1976. It was wet as far back as I can remember. I am glad I did not grow up in such an atmosphere as is prevalent in America today where people make it their business to tell other people how to live their lives. You really have your head in the sand if you think not allowing the sale of liquor keeps people from drinking. The sales tax collected simply goes into the coffers of other counties in MS and AL. People who are against this are not truly against the sale of liquor, they are against personal choice.

I find humor in the stangest of things, and also I'm easily amazed (and amused). Camera phones are a wonderful technological advancement and having said that, I am going to make it a summer project that anytime I see people from Wayne County dining out in a restuarant that serves alcohol in another city, I'm going to just take myself a little 'file photo', notwithstanding whether they are drinking or not. Just think it will be fun to see at some point on down the road......Cheers!!
